Full Day with Host Families! (#9)

The day before our final departure (01/17/2026) was spent with host families. Students had a full day to enjoy what everyday life in Canada is like. Many spent the day sightseeing and shopping, while others enjoyed relaxing time with their host families and trying new foods. Some students visited White Rock, B.C., a seaside town known for its long pier, ocean views, and walking spaces along the beach. It is a popular local spot where families often go to relax, enjoy the sea air, and take photos. Students shared that it felt quiet, beautiful, and very different from home.
Others explored shopping areas and tried local foods. One student happily shared that they tried Canadian udon, which brought lots of smiles and laughter on the bus. It made many of us wonder… how did it taste compared to udon in Japan? 😊

Final Goodbyes & New Jackets! (#10)

On the final morning, emotions were mixed as students prepared to say goodbye. One student quietly said, “I want to stay,” while smiling through tears after a final hug from her host mother, describing her as “so kind.” These moments showed just how strong the connections had become in such a short time.
As we made our way to Vancouver International Airport, students were surprisingly energetic and cheerful. While waiting for the flight, they enjoyed some last minute shopping. Soon, several students were spotted wearing brand new matching Canadian jackets, proudly showing them off! There were plenty of BeReal moments… truly capturing laughter, funny faces and beautiful final memories.

After a short flight delay, we finally boarded. It was beautiful to see the Canadian landscape from above as we flew away from Vancouver and over Alaska, catching a glimpse of the famous Shishaldin Volcano. The flight back to Japan was long but smooth, no screams this time!

When we landed in Japan, familiar comforts brought joy. One student excitedly shared how happy he was to have Ohtani O-cha again, smiling and saying in Japanese, 久しぶり, Ohtani! Another student was just as happy to buy and enjoy Mitadashi dango!

With hearts full and bags checked, we looked ahead to our final flight to Itami Airport, ready to finish the journey home.

Welcome Back to Miki! Forever Changed 💫 (#11)

After landing at Itami Airport, the bus ride to Miki High School was smooth and restful. Upon arrival, students were warmly greeted with welcoming smiles from teachers and parents.

To close the trip, the Principal and teachers shared thoughtful words, thanking the students for their hard work, positive behavior, effort, and energy throughout the exchange. Students were reminded to take time to rest before returning to school life this Thursday.
This trip will be an important memory that students will cherish for a lifetime. This taste of adventure has broadened their view of the world and will encourage them to continue improving their communication skills and explore more places in the future.
Thank you so much for following our journey.
Best wishes… bye bye 💕✨

Day Two: A Fresh Start and Full Stomachs! #4

The students started Day Two with a great breakfast together. Blueberry and chocolate chip muffins were very popular and quickly found new homes on many plates! With cereal, eggs, yogurt, fresh fruit and many other options also available, students fueled up well for the busy day ahead. With full bellies, we packed our bags and got ready to visit The University of British Columbia (UBC).

Learning With a View at UBC! #5

Our first big stop of the day was the UBC, one of Canada’s top universities. UBC is known for its beautiful campus, strong research programs, and focus on caring for the environment. It truly feels like a small city of its own! Students were in awe of the incredible views where the campus meets the ocean and mountains. Many stopped to take photos, admire the scenery, and enjoy the moment. Near the entrance, students also enjoyed a fun echo activity shouting together and hearing their voices bounce back. Laughter filled the area as everyone joined in, turning learning into a joyful experience. On campus, students also learned about biodiversity, sustainability, and ways universities work to protect nature.

From City Streets to New Homes! #6

After leaving UBC, we headed to Gastown and downtown Vancouver. Students enjoyed seeing the famous steam clock, walking through the area, and doing more souvenir shopping! With so many choices, excitement was high. Later, students traveled to Surrey for an orientation to prepare for meeting their host families. At first, everyone looked a little nervous but that feeling didn’t last long. As students introduced themselves, confidence grew and smiles appeared. Soon, conversations were flowing as students met the families, they will stay with for the next three (3) nights. As the day came to an end, it was clear that students were becoming more confident using English. We are looking forward to tomorrow’s activities, which promise to be a day of cultural exchange and real life use of English!
