６月17日（水）、探究Ⅲ「英語要旨発表会」が行われました。
この発表会は、昨年度の探究Ⅱで１年間取り組んできた研究内容を英語で発表するものです。研究内容をさらにブラッシュアップするとともに、適切な英語表現を考えることで、英語運用能力と表現力の向上を目的としています。
生徒たちは研究内容を発表した後、ALTを含む英語科教員からの質問にも英語で回答していました。あらかじめ作成した英文を発表するだけでなく、その場で英語を用いてやり取りを行うことで、実践的なコミュニケーション能力を磨く機会となりました。
２月に実施したポスターセッションでの研究を英語で発表することで、新たな表現を学ぶとともに、自らの研究内容を異なる視点から捉え直す機会にもなりました。
アイドルなどのグッズを購入する「推し活」をテーマに研究した生徒は、購買意欲に基づく支出額と幸福度の相関を統計的に分析し、幸福度を下げることなく購買意欲を満たしながら支出を管理する方法について考察しました。その結果、「少額の投資を継続すること」が最も効果的であるとの結論を導き、その内容を英語で発表することで、身近なテーマを客観的に捉える力を深めていました。
また、英語の発音に関する研究を行った班もありました。英語研究部での普段の活動も生かしながら、単語の正しい発音を学ぶ前と学んだ後でテストの得点に変化が見られるかを比較する対照実験を行い、有意な差が認められたことを発表していました。
発表の様子はZoomで配信し、各クラスの生徒がお互いの発表を視聴しながら、自身の発表に生かしていました。
この発表会は、来週６月24日（水）にも実施される予定です。
Inquiry III: English Research Presentation Session Held
On Wednesday, June 17, students took part in the Inquiry III English Research Presentation Session.
During this presentation session, students presented in English the research they had conducted over the course of a year in Inquiry II last school year. The purpose of the event was to help students further refine their research while improving their English communication and presentation skills by expressing their ideas in natural and appropriate English.
After presenting their research, the students answered questions in English from English teachers, including the Assistant Language Teacher (ALT). Rather than simply reading prepared scripts, they engaged in spontaneous discussions in English, providing valuable opportunities to develop practical communication skills.
By presenting in English the research they had previously shared during the poster session in February, the students not only learned new ways to express their ideas but also gained fresh perspectives on their own research.
One student investigated oshikatsu—the practice of supporting favorite idols by purchasing merchandise and attending events. The student statistically analyzed the relationship between spending based on consumer motivation and personal happiness, and explored ways to manage expenses while maintaining both purchasing satisfaction and happiness. The research concluded that making small, continuous investments was the most effective approach. Presenting these findings in English also helped the student view this familiar topic from a more objective perspective.
Another group conducted research on English pronunciation. Drawing on their experience in the school’s English Research Club, they compared test scores before and after students learned the correct pronunciation of English words. Their experiment showed a statistically significant improvement in scores after pronunciation instruction.
The presentations were livestreamed via Zoom, allowing students in every class to watch one another’s presentations and apply what they learned to improve their own presentations.
The second English Research Presentation Session is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, June 24.
