Hello hello! Guess who’s back? It’s me, Lavender!
Long time no see! It’s the first week of the second semester. It feels like it’s been forever since we’ve had class, but I know the students have been far from idle over summer break. I’ve seen them working on preparations for the school festival, participating in club activities, and studying hard. It seems like they made good use of their time.
We had our opening ceremony on Tuesday, September 1st to officially welcome everyone back to school. Some awards were handed out to students who had won competitions held in summer. Two third year students got second prize at START 2026, a research presentation assembly in English held between schools from 8 different Japanese prefectures and even some from Thailand and Malaysia. Congratulations! That sounds like a great experience. I’m proud of all of our students who worked hard towards their goals this summer. I hope everyone is ready to jump back into learning!
Friday, September 4th was our first day of the school festival. I was blown away by the effort everyone put into their preparations. We started the day with the brass band performance, which is always really fun. You can hear how much the students love to play. There were also three drama performances from 2-5, 2-1, and 1-5. I know they all spent a long time making props and set pieces. I was so impressed with the quality of everything. The costumes, lighting, and music really brought everything together. Every class had such amazing teamwork. I especially enjoyed the dance battle between the ghostbusters and the ghosts in 2-1’s play. 1-2 made a Totoro movie. It was super funny! I loved it!
The music club also had a short performance in the afternoon. There were 4 songs played by 4 first years and 2 third years. Singing while playing guitar is so hard, they must practice a lot. Their voices were beautiful. Of course, the biggest performance was TS. There was a super cool band, an excellent dancing duo with singing, a hilarious comedy skit, another energetic dance duo, and finally a dazzling idol group dance. The audience was going crazy. Toyoko students are so talented!
I can’t forget the third years’ bazaar! I tried 3-2’s Chinese menu, and 3-4’s fried skewers and bread! It was all very good! I recommend the sugar covered bread roll from 3-4! I also managed to get a hot sandwich from the home economics club. So delicious! The food sold out fast so I’ll need to try everything else on day 2!
Finally, some culture club activities! The calligraphy club had a wonderful performance. It looked so cool! The tea ceremony club served matcha and snacks. It was delicious. The information and design club had lots of interesting 3D printed objects and you could even try VR! The life science club had cute little red-bellied newts to look at and a challenging wooden puzzle to try. I got it no problem of course! English club had a cute photo room! It looked like a comic book! Well, there were just too many things to do in one day! You can look forward to the rest next time!
