Dates: July 31st to August 13th, 2014
From July 31st to August 13th, 2014, the 13th Study Abroad Trip to Australia was held at Rossmoyne High School and the University of Western Australia.
At Rossmoyne High School
Right after arriving at Rossmoyne High School, the students were nervous, but they looked happy when they were able to meet their host buddies. They seemed to have some trouble communication in English, but they were friendly and enjoyed talking in English and Japanese together. They relaxed a little when they attended Japanese class.
Signing Ceremony for the Sister School Declaration
On August 5th, the students joined classes in the morning, as the signing ceremony for the Sister School Cooperation document was held in the afternoon. At the ceremony the Rossmoyne students sang “Sekai ni Hitotsu Dake no Hana” and the Himeji Nishi students sang “Waltzing Matilda” acapella. Both of them were wonderful. The Rossmoyne students will come to our school this winter. We believe that ties between the two schools have now been deepened.
The University of Western Australia
On August 6th, the students took two classes at the University of Western Australia (UWA). The students discussed and did some group work with students at UWA about their research. We realized that the Himeji Nishi students should have made a presentation for the UWA students.
After lunch, the students did a UWA treasure hunt. They visited various places on the campus, such as the art museum, library, gym and theater, after solving some riddles. It was a great experience as students were able to interact with not only college students, but also with local people and faculty.
The students had a wonderful time in Australia thanks to the cooperation of many local people. We took a commemorative picture in front of Matilda’s Bay.
