Today was the 2nd day of the Kyoto Study Trip. The temperature was comfortable, but the sky was covered by clouds. Today’s program began with a lecture on “Regional Activation Using Ubiquitous Technology” by Professor Junji Nishida.
Professor Nishida said that “ubiquitous” means “existing everywhere” or in this case “accessible to information technology anywhere anytime.” Students thought about what types of regional activation might be possible using technology that a lot of people have like smartphones. After the lecture, the students began their group meetings. They divided into 7 groups and began to decide on themes or make outlines for their research.
Place: Research Building No. 2, Yoshida Campus, Kyoto University
Group A: Large Seminar Room No. 2
Group B and C: Large Seminar Room No. 1
Group D, E and F: Multimedia Lecture Room
Group G: Small Seminar Room No. 2
Group A decided on the theme: Building an International City”. They will think about how to advertise the attractive points of Himeji City. The theme for Groups B and C is “The Globalization of Business”. The students in Group B decide to study how products in Japan called “Galapagos Products” can expand into foreign markets. Meanwhile Group C discussed choosing to study the overseas expansion of Japanese-style baths.
Groups D, E and F’s theme is “Building a Sustainable International Society”. Group D has decided to study how to cut CO2 emissions and how to generate electricity efficiently. Group E discussed studying biofuel. Group F discussed studying how to make the streets of Himeji more eco-friendly.
Group G’s theme is “Historical Tourism and the Development of International Sightseeing”. They discussed the development of a sightseeing application called “Himeji Navi”, which would make it easier for foreign tourists to understand the sights of Himeji City. They also worked on their business plan for “Himeji Navi”.Today two Kyoto University students who had graduated from our school previously came to support us. They seemed impressed. During a break the university students talked to us about their lives at Kyoto University. It’s great that our older students can support our younger one.
