The 9th Hyogo Prefecture Senior High School English Debate Contest” was held at Kobe City University of Foreign Studies and four 2nd year students joined from our school. The debate was sponsored by the Hyogo Prefecture High School Education Study Group’s English Section with a view to helping students “to think logically” as well as practice their English skills. This year, 20 schools participated. The students were defeated in their first match, however they won their 2nd match against Shikama High School. Unfortunately our school team could not go to in the finals. The students who participated began to prepare for the contest from November last year, and practiced again and again. They tried their best. While the result itself is not remarkable, the students who participated had to use their courage, communication abilities, critical thinking, problem solving skills, teamwork and more and they were able to practice skills that are essential for global leaders. I would like to sincerely applaud the four students who participated from our school. The debate contest’s final match was Fukiai High School vs. Kobe University High School and it ended with four straight victories for Fukiai High School.
