ブレントウッド校の京都旅行
On Saturday, September 12, twenty students and three teachers from our sister school, Brentwood Secondary College, enjoyed a day trip to Kyoto.
They were accompanied by students from our school who served as their host families, as well as the teacher in charge of international exchange and two newly arrived ALTs.
Although there had been a stretch of rainy weather, the skies cleared up in the afternoon—following a cloudy morning—making for a hot and humid day.
The group first visited the World Heritage site of Kiyomizu-dera Temple. The “Kiyomizu Stage,” standing within the vast temple grounds, offered the Australian visitors a mystical and memorable cross-cultural experience.
Afterward, they enjoyed a lunch of tofu dishes at a Japanese restaurant designed in the style of a traditional kyo-machiya (Kyoto townhouse) located along the temple’s approach. They savored a variety of tofu specialties, including yudofu (boiled tofu), sesame tofu, and tofu dengaku (grilled tofu with miso glaze).
They also thoroughly enjoyed shopping at the various stores lining the approach to the temple.
In the afternoon, they visited Rokuon-ji Temple (Kinkaku-ji, or the Golden Pavilion), where they admired the stunning view of the brilliant gold-leaf-covered pavilion reflected in the waters of Kyoko-chi (Mirror Pond).
Although it was just a day trip, the visit to Kyoto proved to be a truly memorable experience for everyone from the sister school.
9月12日（土）、姉妹校であるブレントウッド・セカンダリー・カレッジの生徒20名と教員3名が、京都への日帰り旅行を楽しみました。
一行には、ホストファミリーを務める本校の生徒たちに加え、国際交流担当の教員、そして着任したばかりのALT2名も同行しました。
それまでは雨が続いていましたが、当日は曇り空の朝から一転して午後には晴れ間が広がり、蒸し暑い一日となりました。
一行はまず、世界遺産である清水寺を訪れました。広大な境内にそびえる「清水の舞台」は、オーストラリアからの訪問者にとって、神秘的で心に残る異文化体験となりました。
その後、参道沿いにある「京町家」風の日本料理店で、豆腐料理の昼食を楽しみました。湯豆腐や胡麻豆腐、豆腐田楽など、多彩な豆腐料理を堪能しました。
また、参道に立ち並ぶ数々のお店でのショッピングも存分に楽しみました。
午後は鹿苑寺（金閣寺）を訪れ、鏡湖池（きょうこち）の水面に映る、まばゆい金箔に覆われた舎利殿（金閣）の素晴らしい景観を鑑賞しました。
日帰り旅行ではありましたが、この京都訪問は、姉妹校の皆さんにとって本当に思い出深い体験となりました。
