We invited Mr. Akihiro Ushio of the Hyogo Prefectural Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Technology Center and a Himeji Nishi alumni (35th class), to see our project. We also hulled the NERICA rice we grew. The rice was harvested on October 3rd, 2016. Unfortunately sparrows ate much of rice just before we harvested it, however, we divided the rice that was left into unpolished rice and polished rice. The shape of NERICA rice is different from normal rice, its shape is narrower and longer, so we weren’t able to polish the rice well. But we were able to examine its growth and compare it with other varieties. We will analyze its further and look at whether or not NERICA rice is suitable for cultivation in Sudan. Our school’s NERICA rice project was featured on JICA Kansai’s homepage in August 2016.
